REBLOG: My Dallas Dinner Table Experience

  ddt-logoI will be the first to admit that I was a little apprehensive about attending since I’d never been before and didn’t really know what to expect. To make matters worse, I was tempted not to even go once I found out my friend that agreed to accompany me, could no longer attend. But since I’ve always been horrible about things like that, I decided to persevere nevertheless and BOY, am I glad I did!

The evening was very well organized and I met some very nice people. Everyone was open-minded and the environment was conducive for real honest communication. Growing up, I was always taught the importance of remembering that everyone is not the same but hearing others share their personal perspectives and experiences with race relations from childhood to present day was rather insightful. Through the facilitated exercises, we were able to really dive into topics that are often considered too taboo for everyday conversation and debunk a few myths across color lines.
